When Robert Saleh was hired to be the head coach of the New York Jets in 2021, it was clear the former 49ers assistant never truly understood the pressures and expectations of the job.
By his first game at the helm, it was clear Saleh’s energy that made him a high commodity coach wasn’t there.
New York is hoping their new head coach is much different. Early returns show that Aaron Glenn is exactly that type of coach.
The former Pro Bowl cornerback for the Jets turned scout with the team is back as the leader of the organization. And already, he is seeing and understanding just how important it is for the organization to turn their lack of wins around.
“Being able to talk to a number of people in the building on the business side and the football side, this team, this building is dying for a winner, and my job is to make sure I do everything I can to give them that,” Glenn said on the team’s website. “But I’m pretty confident in that and I learned a lot from my time in New Orleans and Detroit, and I feel like I’m the guy who’s going to be able to do that for them.”
One weakness of any new coach is to not be themselves, though. It’s a big reason why the organization has struggled to find a head coach that fits what they need.
And why Glenn could be that exact voice moving forward.
At least he understands that the most.
“Listen, I’m Aaron Glenn and that’s all I could be is Aaron Glenn,” Genn explained. “And you’re going to get Aaron Glenn every day. I’m a demanding person, but I’m not demeaning. I’m going to do everything I can to help you improve in your craft every single day. And that’s going to help us improve as a team.”
