He is the best coach at the moment” – Former World No.1 Simona Halep has high praise for Darren Cahill

Romanian tennis star Simona Halep has achieved several notable feats during her distinguished career, and the two-time Grand Slam champion has given credit to coach Darren Cahill, who has assisted her during her rise on the WTA Tour and currently coaches ATP World No.1 Jannik Sinner.

The former WTA World No.1 has been plagued by injuries since making her return to the tour in 2024, following her lengthy battle against doping violations. Now ranked in the 800’s, the 33-year old received invitations to the Auckland and Australian Open tournaments, but was forced to withdraw due to a knee injury.

Halep has high praise for Cahill

The former Wimbledon champion is set to compete in her home country at the Winners Open Romania. Halep has not participated at the Transylvanian tournament since 2021, when she lost the final in straight sets to Estonian player Anett Kontaveit.

While doing promotional work for the event, Halep heaped praise on Cahill. Since joining Sinner’s camp, the Australian coach has helped the Italian win three Grand Slam titles, the 2024 and 2025 Australian Open and the 2024 US Open. Additionally, Sinner has risen to the World No.1 ranking, and reached at least the quarterfinals at every tournament he played in during the 2024 season.

“I say this with full conviction… Darren Cahill is the best coach at the moment,” said Halep when asked about the coaching guru’s ability.

Previously, Cahill worked with Halep in her rise to World No.1 and her victory at the 2018 French Open championships. After splitting ways, the duo reunited in 2020, where they worked together through the 2021 season.
