Emma Raducanu lays tension between her and Andy Murray to rest; reveals her “long” apology after crossing paths at Australian Open

WTA star Emma Raducanu recently made staggering gestures of putting her controversy with Andy Murray to rest. After securing her spot in the third round of the 2025 Australian Open, the Briton clarified that the bad blood between them no longer exists. The ATP legend congratulated the 22-year-old on her commendable performance against Amanda Anisimova.

Raducanu’s last-minute withdrawal from the mixed doubles of 2024 Wimbledon set things on fire. She faced immense criticism for depriving fans of witnessing the legend on the court for one last time. Currently backing Novak Djokovic as a mentor, Andy Murray was present at Melbourne Park while Raducanu battled the World No. 35.

During her press conference after the 2R win over Anisimova, Raducanu unveiled that she extended a heartfelt apology to Murray. This marked an end to their long-standing controversy.

“He’s someone that I’ve grown up looking up to and I don’t want any bad blood or harsh feelings with him. I sent him a long message and he took it really well and responded saying he was disappointed but he understood. We’re fine now,” she said.

The former US Open champion also mentioned seeing the ATP legend in fine terms amid the ongoing major event. She also expressed excitement over his fresh partnership with Djokovic.

“We walk past each other and say ‘hello’, ‘well done’. It’s obviously really cool seeing him with Novak here as well. Two great champions and they’re just together, it’s pretty awesome. Afterwards I sent him a long message basically apologising if I caused any trouble I guess at Wimbledon, that’s definitely the last thing I want,” she added.

Raducanu was exposed to immense criticism following her decision to withdraw from Wimbledon in 2024. Besides this, she also made triggering remarks during Murray’s emotional withdrawal last year.

“No, it doesn’t feel different at all. I think tennis is unforgiving in that sense no matter who you are. It just moves on,” she said, making it clear that the ATP legend’s exit made no difference to the fast paced sport.
