Speaking on the St. Brown Podcast, Williams shared his thoughts on the ongoing process, highlighting the importance of finding the right leader to guide the Bears forward. “Strong-minded. A leader of men,” Williams said, citing Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell as an example of the type of leader he admires.
The young quarterback also expressed his preference for an offensive-minded coach, someone who can foster his development and provide stability for years to come.
“Selfishly, I want an offensive-minded guy so I can build with him and be with that coach for the next 19, 17, 15 years,” Williams explained. “I want to learn, grow, and gain insights from a coach who’s experienced working with quarterbacks.”
Balancing Offense and Overall Game Management
While Williams leans toward an offensive specialist, he stressed the importance of a coach capable of managing all aspects of the game. Reflecting on a Thanksgiving loss to the Detroit Lions—a game where the Bears’ clock management and game control were criticized—Williams underscored the need for a head coach with strong organizational skills.
“If we get an overall, like, grand-scheme coach who’s good with time management, good with the clock, good with helping control the game … It’s a big factor, obviously,” he said.
The ability to make sound in-game decisions, particularly under pressure, is a quality Williams believes is essential for the team’s success moving forward.
