Norwich City Receive Major Boost as their main star Nears Return for Cardiff League Cup Clash

Norwich City have received a major boost ahead of their League Cup trip to Cardiff City, with Philippe Clement confirming that a long-awaited return is now on the cards.

The Canaries are looking to respond after their disappointing Championship defeat to Millwall, but Clement has made it clear that Tuesday’s trip to Cardiff is about much more than simply giving fringe players valuable minutes.

After spending around 10 months on the sidelines following a serious knee injury, one Norwich attacker is finally in line for a competitive comeback.

Clement revealed that the player was delighted when he was told he would be included in the squad, describing the moment as “massive” for him.

However, the Norwich boss has urged supporters to keep their expectations realistic.

After such a lengthy spell without competitive football, Clement does not expect an immediate return to peak form. Instead, the priority will be to carefully manage the player’s minutes while allowing him to gradually rebuild his fitness and confidence.

“He’s been out for 10 months with no football,” Clement explained, making it clear that nobody should expect him to instantly perform at his previous level.

The manager also confirmed that recent signing Darlin Yongwa is in line to make his Norwich debut.

Yongwa has only recently joined the squad and needed time to learn the names of his new teammates, understand Clement’s system and settle into his surroundings. The Cardiff fixture now appears to be the right opportunity to introduce him to competitive action.

Bruno Alves could also be involved, while Anthony Musaba has already been integrated into the squad due to circumstances surrounding the previous game.

But Clement stressed that rotation cannot come at the expense of Norwich’s ambition.

The Canaries are travelling to Cardiff with one objective: qualification.

“This is not a friendly game,” Clement’s comments made clear. Every decision surrounding the squad will therefore have to balance player development with the responsibility of getting through to the next round.

There was also positive news surrounding several players recovering from injuries.

Paris Maghoma has returned to grass training following his calf problem, although he is not yet ready to feature.

Clement also provided an encouraging update on Ali Ahmed, who recently underwent knee surgery. The midfielder experienced some difficult days immediately after the operation but is now feeling much better and remains determined to return stronger.

With several players gradually making their way back, Norwich are beginning to see light at the end of an injury-hit period.

For one long-term absentee, however, the Cardiff fixture could mark the beginning of a hugely important new chapter — nearly a year after his last taste of competitive football.
